About this Event
Who: Indiana youth interested in amplifying their voices in support of tobacco-free and vape-free lifestyles
What: Day of Action at the Indiana Statehouse
When: Monday, January 27, 2020, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Indiana Statehouse, 3rd floor atrium
Why: Indiana youth tobacco use has skyrocketed, especially the use of e-cigarettes. Vaping among Hoosier youth has increased nearly fourfold since 2012, leaving many young people addicted to nicotine and their peers exposed to the secondhand aerosol. Parents and school officials are concerned about the impacts of this trend on their children and communities. Youth Action Day is a forum to:
·Gather with other youth throughout Indiana to learn what’s being done to reduce youth vaping
·Get equipped to dispel the three myths related to vaping/Juuling in Indiana:
o E-cigarettes are safe. (Myth)
o E-cigarettes do not contain nicotine. (Myth)
o E-cigarettes are not marketed to kids. (Myth)
·Educate and collaborate with Indiana’s state leaders
·Understand Indiana state government and the lawmaking process during the legislative session
·Recognize what you can do in your local communities to educate peers and make change! Can you commit to sending a group of youth from your community or school?
Lunch will be provided for those registered, and T-shirts are available for youth who attend.
Space is limited, so register today!
