Meeting Description:

The risk of suicide and suicidal behavior is elevated in patients with substance use disorders. This presentation will review the risk factors for suicide in those with SUDs and co-occurring disorders and discuss practical clinical skills for suicide prevention in clients with addictive disorders.
Objectives:

  1. Explore the epidemiology of addiction and co-occurring disorder-related suicide.
  2. Understand the risk factors for suicide attempts and completed suicide.
  3. Implement knowledge and educate others for prevention of addiction-related suicideBrought.

Christine Yuodelis-Flores, MD


Christine Yuodelis-Flores, M.D. is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Washington Dept of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is also Board-certified in Addiction Medicine. She directs the Harborview HIV Psychiatry Program and provides supervision for psychiatry residents and fellows in the HIV-Focus electives and supervises Internal Medicine residents in the Addiction Medicine Elective. She also attends at Harborview Mental Health and Addiction Services where she directs the Women–Focus Addiction Psychiatry Elective and the Co-occurring Disorder Psychiatry Elective and provides didactics and supervision for medical students, residents & fellows. Her research interests include substance-induced mental disorders, and suicide prevention for people with co-occurring disorders.
