 Presenter Information

Ari Davis, MPP

Ari works as a Public Health Fellow at the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence where he conducts research, drafts policy briefs, and assists in developing programming. He pursued a Master’s in Public Policy at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he focused on injury and violence prevention.

 

Prior to attending graduate school, Ari was a Special Education Teacher with Teach for America in New Orleans, Louisiana. Through his experiences working with youth affected by gun violence, he became a passionate advocate for utilizing and implementing public health policies to reduce gun violence.

Dakota Jablon, MHS

Dakota Jablon serves as a Policy Analyst at the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, where much of her work is focused on the role of firearms in suicide prevention. Prior to joining the Ed Fund, Dakota worked as a Congressional staffer for now retired Congressman Henry Waxman and his successor, Congressman Ted Lieu of California. Dakota earned her master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where her emphasis was mental health and suicide prevention policy. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola Marymount University.

Kayla Hicks

As the Director of African American & Community Outreach, Kayla Hicks supports evidence-based policies and practices to reduce gun deaths and injuries. In her position, she is responsible for the organization’s outreach with a special focus on Impacted Communities that are disproportionately affected by gun violence but historically underrepresented in the debates on the issue by elected officials.

 

Kayla is dedicated to engaging Unserved and Underserved communities of daily gun violence by turning research into relationships. Her focus is applying evidence-based policy and community intervention with a holistic approach to make communities safer through a series of free Education to Action Workshops (Ed2Ac), that provide communities with sustainable tools necessary to enact real change.
