Title: Colorado's LARC Program Overview

  • Brief Description
  • The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has been a grantee of Federal Title X funds since 1970 and contracts with local agencies to provide family planning services throughout Colorado. Private funding from 2008-2016 allowed the health department to expand access to family planning services and lower barriers to long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC).  Access to long-acting reversible contraceptives in Colorado has helped cut teen pregnancy and abortion rates in half and averted costs for state agencies serving low-income families.
  • Objectives:
  1. Participants will understand the integrated approach that CDPHE used to implement its LARC program.
  2. Participants will gain a better understanding of the data elements that CDPHE tracked to quantify success.
  3. Participants will gain a better understanding of the cost avoidance research and outcomes.
